Haines memorial Bethany Haines, the daughter of David Haines, one of two British aid workers beheaded by Islamic militants, arrives at the Perth Congregational Church for his memorial service.

The daughter of murdered IS hostage David Haines has told of her heartbreak that he will never hold his grandson.

Bethany Haines gave birth to Aiden just days before the first anniversary of her dad’s death in Syria.

In an emotional message dedicated to her father, she said: “It kills me knowing he’ll never meet grandad David.

“But I hope I’ve done you proud. He will too.” Bethany, 18, added: “It’s been a crazy year. I wouldn’t have got through without my family and friends.”

Aid worker David was the first Brit hostage killed on video by terrorist Jihadi John last September.

Bethany, of Scone, vowed: “I promise one day we’ll get justice for you and wipe that smug smile off that pig’s face.

“I only hope you’re looking down smiling at your gorgeous grandson and are proud.

“It hurts every day that you’re not here. No more movie nights, hours talking, and no more lectures about behaving at school.”

Earlier this month, Bethany, described RAF drone attacks on IS strongholds as a “step in the right direction”.

David was said to have been preparing for retirement after his final visit to Syria. The 44-year-old was planning to quit his work and return to his wife in Croatia.

But the plans were cut short when he was captured by Islamic State jihadis in March 2013.

This month David’s elder brother Mike Haines also made a plea for unity and tolerance in the UK.

Mike has spent the last 12 months working with groups to combat extremist indoctrination of young people in the UK, and wants people to come together in memory of his “hero” brother, saying anger and division would only further terrorists’ aim.
