Brechin boss Darren Dods is looking for an early Christmas present in the shape of three points against Stranraer this afternoon with a win also finally lifting the Angus club off the bottom of the League One table for the first time this season.
City go into the game with confidence bolstered following last week’s hard-earned draw against Peterhead.
The player/manager was able to take a back seat against the Blue Toon, selecting himself on the bench and he admits he is much happier with the options currently at his disposal.
He is now hoping it will be third time lucky this season for Brechin and they can finally haul themselves off the foot of the league and leapfrog Stranraer into ninth.
Dods said: “I felt it was a good point last week as Peterhead have been going well.
“It was a blow to lose a deflected goal after just 10 minutes but we kept battling away.
“With Peterhead having played in midweek, I felt they were content to see the game out so it was great to see Robert Thomson coming off the bench to get his goal and secure a point for us.
“I feel we are getting stronger. I was able to put myself on the bench and it was good to see Dene Shields have his first full game in six or seven weeks after injury.
“I definitely have more options at my disposal and hopefully I can add one or two more in the January window.
“We are now looking forward to another home game against Stranraer who are just above us in the table.
“We know a win would take us off the bottom of the table.
“We have had two previous chances to do that this season but we let ourselves down on both occasions.
“Hopefully, we have learned from that.
“It is a great incentive for us to go into Christmas finally off the bottom of the league.”
Brechin will be without knee injury victim Ross Perry.
