Breakfast club suits Dark Blues to a tea

12/10/13 SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP DUMBARTON v DUNDEE (1-4) BET BUTLER STADIUM - DUMBARTON Dundee manager John Brown gives his side direction from the touchline.

It’s said to be the most important meal of the day and one that the Dundee players are sharing in their newly-formed breakfast club.

The Dark Blues won their latest league match against Queen of the South on Saturday to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

And boss John Brown believes the extra bonding over breakfast has helped improve team togetherness.

Brown said: “It’s been great for morale. Just sitting the lads down for a bite in the morning helps camaraderie.

“We don’t want them turning up and five minutes later they are on the training park. We want them in 45 minutes beforehand so they can get a cup of tea and something light and healthy to eat together and just relax for a bit.

“You want them in each other’s company as much as possible. The bottom line is when you have to roll the sleeves up, you want the guy who you spend the most time next to you to be able to dig you out if you’re not having the best of days.”

Brown expressed his delight at his side’s recent form but insists it is still early days in terms of the Championship race, which he believes will go right down to the wire.

And he has warned his players they cannot afford to take anything for granted despite their fine run when they travel to face a resurgent Livingston and their new manager, John McGlynn, on Saturday.

Brown said: “It’s important just to keep things going. You wouldn’t have tipped half the results at the weekend. This division is so tight that I think it will go down to the wire.

“We’re away to Livingston this weekend and that will be a game between the two form teams in the league.

“We’ve won our last four and Livi have won three out of four since John has gone in there. So it will be a massive game for them and us. I am sure it will be a tough test.”
