Councillors uphold decision to refuse new shops at site of former Shand pub

Councillors have upheld a decision to reject proposals to build shops on the site of a disused Dundee pub.
Locate Developers had sought planning permission to knock down the former Shand pub in Dickson Avenue, Menzieshill, and replace it with two retail units.
A convenience store chain was rumoured to be interested in occupying one of the units but consent was refused.
Councillors on the local review body were asked to reconsider and they carried out a site visit before concluding that the refusal was justified.
They decided the area was already well served for shopping and the application was contrary to local planning policy.
The Punch Taverns-owned pub remains empty and no decision has been taken about its future.
