Work towards creating a flood protection scheme in Stonehaven is continuing to make good progress.
A number of surveys are being carried out by specialist companies to determine the best option.
Invitations to tender for the topographical survey have been issued, with the outcome expected to be reported to council at Tuesday’s meeting.
Councillors will also get an update on meetings that have taken place with representatives of the Stonehaven Flood Action Group.
Ongoing maintenance includes the replacement of rock armour in the Carron that was washed away and the removal of debris from the river’s embankments.
Council officers have given a commitment to have the first phase of the Arbuthnott drain project to alleviate water levels in the High Street area in place within 12-18 months, provided there are no issues with services or landowners.
The second phase, providing a pump to alleviate issues at high tide, will be investigated as soon as possible thereafter.
It is anticipated a preliminary design will be reported to the area committee on July 2, with a view to inviting construction tenders in the autumn.
