Retired Fife businessman admits possessing indecent images

A retired Fife businessman, who was caught with more than 5,000 indecent images featuring children and animals, had his sentence deferred at Cupar Sheriff Court

Walter Mac Lawrie, 66, of Atholl Terrace, Kirkcaldy, admitted that between January 1 2008 and March 21 2012 at his home address he was in possession of indecent or pseudo photographs of children as well as extreme pornographic images depicting sexual activity between a person and animals.

The court heard the images were recovered on hard drives and other storage devices by police. In total, there were 4,416 still images and 1,159 videos, of which 555 were level four of the Copine Scale and 25 were level five 24 of these images were described as “extreme pornography”.

Lawrie has been married for 42 years and ran his own business, Kirkcaldy Aerial Services, before retiring six years ago due to ill-health.

He claimed his viewing habits had started off as a “game” and he did not expect to become “sucked in” to the extent that he had been and he did not get any sexual gratification from viewing the images.

Sheriff Charles Macnair deferred sentence until July 4 for reports.
