A Forfar woman has admitted fraudulently claiming more than £20,000 in benefits.
Sharon Dodds, 35, of Glenogil Crescent, Forfar, failed to declare that her husband was working in a bakery and was receiving earnings.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard the amount of money claimed totalled £20,208.85.
Depute fiscal Douglas Wiseman told the court Dodds had failed to input her husband’s earnings on benefit applications.
“Accordingly, they gained significant sums of public money, totalling £20,208.85. Investigations were made and, as a consequence of that, these are the agreed figures,” he explained.
Dodds admitted carrying out the offences between July 2 2007 and October 17 2010.
She admitted that, at Job Centre Plus, Wellgate, Cardean Street and Liff Road, Dundee, and St Ninians Road, Padanaram, near Forfar, with a view to obtaining any benefit or other payment or advantage, she knowingly made to officials of the Department for Work and Pensions and Dundee City Council a false statement on claim forms and applications that her only income was benefits.
The truth was that her husband Frank Dodds was working with Teviotdale bakery on South Road in Dundee and was receiving earnings which she did not declare.
She thereby obtained £15,652.32 of Jobseeker’s Allowance, £3,315.08 of housing benefit and £1,241.45 in council tax benefit to which she was not entitled.
Sheriff Tom Hughes deferred sentence to June 24.
