Willo Flood agrees switch to Aberdeen

Willo Flood will join Aberdeen in the summer.

Dundee United midfielder Willo Flood has agreed to join Aberdeen when his Tannadice contract expires next month.

The 28-year-old Irishman was a standout player for the Tangerines last season and many fans will be sorry to see him go to one of their SPL rivals.

Dons boss Derek McInnes was delighted to have Flood, however, saying: “I have always been a great admirer of Willo and he’s a player I am looking to make a real impact for Aberdeen next season.

“With his extensive SPL experience, he was voted player of the year for Dundee United last season which speaks volumes about his ability.

“We are delighted to have him on board as we look towards building a squad capable of bringing success back to this club.”

Meanwhile, United have admitted they were interested in Dundee playmaker Gary Harkins. However, the Tangerines insisted that at no point was there a deal on the table.

A Tannadice source told Courier Sport: “It is wrong to say that he turned us down. We never got as far as offering him terms.”

Having made up his mind earlier this week that he wouldn’t be re-signing for Dundee, Harkins is now poised to join Motherwell.

He will now not only have SPL football to look forward to next season but also a venture into the Europa League with the Steelmen.

That means that of last season’s first-team squad both Harkins and John Baird, who has moved to Partick Thistle, won’t be at Dundee next term.

However, manager John Brown still hopes to persuade others to re-sign and he has extended the deadline for answers from his players into next week.
