A man has been killed in a head-on road crash in the countryside.
Two other people were taken to hospital after the collision on the A98 between Cullen and Portsoy, Aberdeenshire at around 1.30pm on Monday.
Two Nissan Almera cars, one red and one blue, were travelling in opposite directions on a stretch of road three miles from Cullen when they crashed. Police said the elderly male driver of the blue Almera died at the scene.
A 59-year-old man driving the red Almera was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and a 56-year-old woman who was in the car with him was taken to Dr Gray’s hospital in Elgin. The condition of either casualty is not known.
Sergeant David Pirie said: “We are currently making inquiries into the circumstances of this collision and I would appeal for witnesses who saw either of these vehicles travelling on the road and who have not been spoken to already to contact Police Scotland on the non-emergency 101 line.”
Meanwhile, a man was injured when the articulated lorry he was driving overturned and crashed into a house off the A90 in Aberdeenshire. He was taken to hospital after the accident in the village of Cortes at about 1.35pm.
Police said his injuries are not serious and that no one in the house was injured. The A90 between Peterhead and Fraserburgh was closed while emergency services dealt with the accident and traffic was diverted.
