The show will go on at a Fife theatre, after concerns over safety were allayed.
Representatives of Dunfermline’s Alhambra Theatre met Fife Council’s regulation and licensing committee following the venue’s failure to submit safety certificates to the local authority.
This came as the Alhambra applied to renew its theatre licence. The venue will remain open with a small group of committee members set to keep a close eye on the theatre as work to complete the necessary certification takes place.
Councillor Mike Rumney said: “We are all aware of the success of the Alhambra but, having spent £1.2 million, you would have thought that the safety of the public was paramount.
“Fire safety and the keeping of records is important.”
Work to ensure that the necessary safety certificates were forthcoming was ongoing at the Alhambra during the meeting, with councillors and fire officials agreeing that the venue presented no threat to public safety.
Accepting the delay in submitting certification had been embarrassing for the theatre, Andrew Thomson, the solicitor representing the Alhambra, said: “It is important to recognise that this building is not considered dangerous to anyone.
“We are lacking two certificates at the moment and can be criticised but we are dealing with the present and the theatre is considered a safe place to be.”
