Human remains have been found at a nature reserve, sparking a police investigation.
The discovery was made by a member of the public in woodland at Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh at around 5.30pm on Thursday. The scene is cordoned off while police and partner agencies conduct a forensic recovery operation.
Detective Chief Inspector Keith Hardie said: “At this time we are providing a presence in the woodland area around Corstorphine Hill to assist colleagues from other agencies in recovering these remains.
“Following this they will be taken for analysis to determine, identity and establish a cause of death.
“This inquiry is in its infancy and there is no further information at this time as to how this individual came to be in Corstorphine Hill. Anyone who believes they have information relating to this matter is asked to contact police immediately.
“I would like to thank the local community, including motorists for their patience and co-operation while we deal with this inquiry.”
The bus lane in Corstorphine Road will be closed for a period of time to allow access for specialist vehicles. The investigation is an “at an early stage” and anyone who can help police with their inquiries is asked to come forward.
