Bomb disposal experts were called to Angus for the second time in two days today following the discovery of a device on Arbroath’s beach.
Officers from the Tayside Division of Police Scotland were alerted on Wednesday morning when a member of the public reported what appeared to be “unexploded ordnance” on Elliot beach near Kerr’s Miniature Railway.
The area was cordoned off and military disposal experts were spotted on the scene from around 3pm.
Residents in the nearby area took to social networking sites to report hearing a loud bang at around 3.30pm the result of a controlled explosion by the Royal Navy’s Northern Diving Group which is understood to be handling the situation.
A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said: “A controlled explosion has been carried out and there were no issues.”
On Tuesday, the Royal Logistic Corps’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit attended the discovery of an old mortar shell near Barry Road in Carnoustie. The device proved to be inactive and was removed from the site.
