A charity coffee shop in Milnathort marked a remarkable milestone with a visit from best-selling author Alexander McCall Smith.
Common Grounds was celebrating, having donated £100,000 since its inception in 2000. The money raised has gone to self-help projects, mainly in Africa, though other countries have benefited, including Peru and India. The donations are made to projects that cover health, education and agriculture.
A celebration lunch was held in the Guide and Scout Hall, Church Street, Milnathort, where the guest of honour was the author of the No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series, which is set in Africa.
Mr McCall Smith said he was delighted to take part in the celebration with more than 70 volunteers, supporters and their relatives. The coffee shop is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 1pm in the Guide and Scout Hall.
The coffee shop also stocks fair trade items, second hand books and local produce to boost the fundraising.
