Steve Lomas has been stranded in Portugal, but he intends to hit the ground running at Millwall when he eventually gets back.
The former St Johnstone boss has extended his stay abroad as a result of a Portuguese air-traffic controllers’ strike. His unveiling at the New Den was planned for Friday but will now take place at the start of the week.
Lomas reported: “We’re lucky to be able to stay longer at our hotel. We haven’t even bothered going to the airport.
“It’s not ideal but in the grand scheme of things another couple of days won’t make much of a difference.”
Lomas, who is unlikely to raid the Scottish market when he gets down to recruiting players at Millwall, wanted to put on record his appreciation of the treatment he got by the people of Perth in his two years in the city.
He said: “I was welcomed into the community, which meant a lot to me as an outsider from Northern Ireland.
“I think I did everything in my time at Perth from going to the races to freezing on the Tay opening the salmon season!
“I’ve made some friends for life in people like Tommy and Irene Campbell, and I used to enjoy Saints fans coming up to me wanting to talk football. That’s something I’ll miss.
“I’d also like to thank the chairman for giving me the opportunity to come to the club and wish Tommy (Wright) all the best next season. And it’s a great opportunity for Callum (Davidson) as his number two, which he deserves.
“Hopefully they’ll get a decent draw in Europe.”
