Jim Leishman and the Geriatric Geronimos happy to be the fall guys

Fife’s Geriatric Geronimos have done it again.

With a combined age of 439, seven Dunfermline Rotarians ‘threw’ themselves off the Forth Bridge on Sunday.

Joined by Fife Provost Jim Leishman, who described himself as a “hinger oan”, the team abseiled 165 feet down the iconic structure in aid of charity.

President Bill Runciman, 71, ex-Royal Navy captain Tom Sunter, 71, Brian Mitchell, 65, David Lyth, 65, and David Chalmers, 67, along with fellow Rotarians Craig Beeley, 38, and 62-year-old Tom Arnott, undertook the feat in aid of Rotary good causes.

Mr Leishman was raising money for the Mary Leishman Foundation set up in memory of his wife, who died of cancer.

Bill, Tom and Brian are no strangers to adrenaline as in 2010 they formed part of the club’s Jumpnauts team, known as the Geriatric Geronimos, which raised £11,000 by jumping from a plane at 10,000 feet.

Bill said the abseil had been a great success.

“Everyone did it and enjoyed it,” he said.

“The weather was perfect and visibility was good and trains went over us as we were about to start.”

The event was organised by South Queensferry Rotary Club.
