Explosives disposal experts were called to Angus after another “bomb” was discovered in the area.
Police confirmed that what appeared to be “an old, rusted bomb” was found near Trail Drive at Montrose East Links at around 7.50am.
The Royal Logistics Corps’ explosive ordnance disposal unit was called to the scene and carried out a controlled explosion shortly before midday.
A police spokesman said: “We received a report of unexploded ordnance in the sand dunes and the item appeared to be an old, rusted bomb.
“A 50-metre cordon was put in place this morning, EOD attended and the device has since been disposed of by controlled explosion.”
The incident marked the third of its kind in a week in Angus. Workers digging at the new Co-op site near Barry Road in Carnoustie raised the alarm last Tuesday following the discovery of a shell at the site.
A similar incident occurred the following day after an expired French marine smoke marker was discovered on a beach at Arbroath.
The item had been washed up and a navy team carried out a controlled explosion on the volatile device.
