Hundreds of thousands of pounds could flood into the bank accounts of Perthshire homeowners as golf fans descend upon the region for the Ryder Cup.
Some are prepared to charge up to £25,000 per week in rent as visitors flock from around the globe to Gleneagles in 2014.
There were thousands on the Centenary Course at the weekend for the final rounds of the Johnnie Walker Championship the last time competitive professional golf will be held there ahead of the USA/Europe battle.
The Ryder Cup will take the sport locally to another level entirely, however, and it will undoubtedly be the biggest sporting event to be held in the area.
And the Courier can reveal that residents far and wide are looking to cash-in by contacting estate agents such as the Strathearn-based Irving Geddes.
Homeowners in Edinburgh, Glasgow and even the Borders have been in touch to offer their properties, though many have been turned away due to the supply of available properties.
Gary Robertson, property manager with Irving Geddes, said many Perthshire householders would “capitalise” on the Ryder Cup.
“Some want to rent their homes for £25,000 per week in Perthshire. Others are looking to get around £4,000 to £5,000 per week,” he said.
Mr Robertson continued: “The Ryder Cup in Scotland is such a prestigious event and we’ve had interest predominately from people in America, with some from Europe.
“Investment bankers from England have also contacted us about properties to rent locally. I’ve even had to turn some people away as we want to concentrate on the local area.
“We’ve had householders from the Borders, Edinburgh and St Andrews wanting to rent their homes, but those in the likes of the Borders are too far away.”
Mr Robertson said he expects the same scenario when Glasgow stages the Commonwealth Games next year. A host of Perthshire properties advertised on the GlenGolf2014.com website are on offer at rents raging from £7,000 per week to £1,500 per day.
