London Fashion Week brings new opportunity for Hayley Scanlan

Award-winning Dundee designer Hayley Scanlan’s new collection will feature in a major High Street fashion outlet during London Fashion Week.

The pop-up boutique will be in Topshop’s Oxford Street store featuring items from her Queen of Hearts collection.

Hayley said: “I’m really excited but just so busy getting everything ready. I don’t really have time to think about it as they want a lot of stock.

“It’s all a bit surreal. It is still so early. I’ve only been in business for a year.

“It is quite scary and a little bit overwhelming but this is the biggest opportunity I’ve ever had.

“I think it will become real when I see it launch in the shop.”

She said the items going on sale are some of her more affordable lines from her latest H.S. collection. The Queen of Hearts collection is a clever juxtaposition of eclectic styles from two iconic women; ’80s icon Debbie Harry and Mary, Queen of Scots, taking influence from the punk movement and using heavy embellishments throughout the collection.

It is made up of jackets, skirts and Hayley’s signature digital print dresses.

Hayley said: “Debbie Harry is one of my icons. I loved the idea of pairing someone like her, with an equally rebellious heroine, Mary Stuart, the former Queen of Scotland.

“This is a collection that has taken me deep into the heart of my Scottish roots and represents a strong and feisty femininity.”

Hayley learned dressmaking as a little girl from her grandmother and after graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone she caught the eye of supermodel Erin O’Connor who commissioned a custom-made leather jacket.

Since then she has dressed celebrities including Marina Diamandis, Little Mix, Jessie J, and Stooshi and went on to establish her womenswear label.

Last year Hayley set up her Dundee studio and became an official ambassador for the city.

If the pop-up shop proves successful Hayley hopes that Topshop will consider stocking her clothes.
