Montrose boss Paul Hegarty is hoping there will be a repeat of his side’s first result against Queen’s Park this season when they meet again this afternoon and not the demoralising drubbing they experienced in the second encounter.
The Gable Endies beat the Spiders 1-0 at Hampden back in October the last time they kept a clean sheet but then suffered a 6-1 reverse at Links Park the following month.
Now, though the Montrose manager is looking for his side to secure another notable win at the National Stadium with his players buoyed after last weekend’s thrilling 3-2 comeback win over East Stirlingshire.
He said: “Our results against Queen’s Park this season could not have been more different.
“We beat them 1-0 at Hampden at the start of the season and to be honest, we were very fortunate that day.
“Then, we played them back at Links Park and they thumped us 6-1.
“So obviously we are looking for a repeat of the first result this time around.
“That was also the last time we kept a clean sheet so if we can win and prevent them from scoring, that will be a major bonus.
“The lads have been buzzing in training this week after our comeback win over East Stirling.
“They showed great spirit and attitude and we will be looking for more of the same against Queen’s Park if we can maintain it, then we will have won a watch.”
Hegarty will once again be without long-term injury victim Paul Watson but there is better news on two others.
He added: “Andy Steeves has been back in training after his knee injury. He has done well so he may be back in the squad.
“Ross McCord had an operation on Tuesday and his knee has had a bit of a tidy-up. Hopefully he will be back in six to eight weeks.
“However, it is also one in and one out with Gary Fraser back from suspension but Graham Webster will serve a ban.”
