A well-loved figure in the Lundin Links community has passed away just months after her 100th birthday.
Elizabeth (Betty) Stott was a former headmistress at Lundin Mill Primary and was also an enthusiastic golfer with Lundin Ladies Golf Club for many years.
Born on March 28 1915 in Coaltown of Wemyss, where she lived during her early years, Miss Stott trained as a teacher after leaving Buckhaven High School and took up her first post in Ringford, Kirkcudbright.
Returning to Fife in 1940, she taught in many rural schools before ultimately reaching the post of headmistress in Lundin Mill Primary, Lundin Links.
A keen golfer, Miss Stott was an active member of Lundin Ladies Golf Club, where she became captain in 1965.
She encouraged the children in school to take up golf, using her connection with the club to give them the opportunity to play at the course.
Indeed, many of the area’s golfers who have progressed in the sport have fond memories of their time playing Lundin Ladies and their encouragement from Miss Stott.
She was awarded honorary membership of both the Lundin Ladies Golf Club and the Fife County Ladies Golfing Association, organisations that appreciated her support and service to the sport.
When she stopped playing, she and her sister Rita took responsibility for funding the regular replacement of the club flag.
Miss Stott also had a long association with the WRI. Having joined in 1936 at Ringford she continued her membership throughout her very active life.
She was granted an honorary membership of Largo WRI in her later years. She was also a keen member of the Fife Family History Association.
Miss Stott, who was latterly resident in the Peacehaven Care Home, Lundin Links, celebrated her 100th birthday in March, with friends and family joining her from far and wide.
