A man is expected in court in connection with a disturbance at a Dundee mosque.
Police detained the man following Friday’s incident at the city’s Taj Dar-e-Madina Mosque on Victoria Road.
Glass frames containing holy verses of the Koran were smashed during the incident.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed a 38-year-old man had been detained and is expected to appear from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court today.
Dundee charity worker Faisal Hussein reacted with dismay following news of the alleged vandalism.
The project manager of the Yusuf Youth Initiative said his organisation will have to reconsider their own security measures following the incident at Taj Dar-e-Madina.
He said: “Mosques are places where there are children coming and going and though there is CCTV, CCTV can’t stop someone coming into a mosque.
“We run a youth programme in Dundee and we will definitely be speaking to police about added security measures.
“I’ve not come across anything like this happening in a place of worship in Scotland in a very long time.
Mr Hussein previously said he believed last month’s Parisian atrocities had led to a spike of hate crimes against Muslims in Tayside.
Speaking earlier this month he said: “I know absolutely of about five or six incidents that have happened in Dundee.
“There are people who have talked to me about it but don’t want to report it to the police because they fear there might be reprisals.
“It has been mostly verbal but some of it is slightly physical a small push or someone making a threatening move to push or coming up to the person so they have to move away.
“It’s generally adult males responsible but they are going after females.
“Whether it’s racial or not racial, that is just not right.”
