Former Hearts star Robbie Neilson cannot wait for Rangers’ big visit to Bayview.
The East Fife assistant manager knows the odds are stacked against his side springing a major upset.
In fact, history will show the last time East Fife defeated Rangers was in the old Division One back in 1974 when they came through 1-0.
And after getting whacked 5-0 by Ally McCoist’s team at Ibrox earlier in the season many people will look on Saturday’s clash as a mission impossible for the Fifers.
But Neilson insists manager Willie Aitchison’s outfit can take nothing but heart from last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Dunfermline.
He said: “It’s going to be a big day for our club. It’s going to be a full house and the atmosphere will be tremendous.
“Everyone is geared up for it and the dressing room is buzzing.
“To beat Dunfermline was a magnificent result and we go into the game with no fear really because there is no pressure on us.
“If we play and defend well and hit them on the counter attack hopefully we can get a result.
“But it’s just going to be a special occasion for the club and our supporters.”
Neilson, who spent 10 years at Tynceastle before spells with Leicester, Brentford and Dundee United, said: “The team has belief especially after beating Dunfermline and it gives us a wee bit of confidence going into such a big football game.
“If we can get a result it will be magnificent. We brought in new players such as Gary Naysmith, Stephen Hughes and Christian Nade who are all top players with a wealth of experience.
“But we are under no illusions because Rangers are a good team with good footballers.
“We will need to be on top of our game and Rangers will have to have an off day if we are to take anything out of it.”
