Two Dundee men who beat up one of their wife’s lovers had their sentences deferred at the city’s sheriff court
Graham Bell and Allan Gall, both 25, ambushed the man in a park, leaving him with cuts and a broken eye socket, after finding out he was having an affair with Bell’s wife, in June last year.
The court heard that the man had met Bell’s wife three months prior to the assault, striking up a friendship which “developed into a relationship”.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said that Bell’s wife had then asked the man to meet her in Baxter Park to discuss the fact that her husband had found out about their relationship.
The court heard that the two attackers surprised the man, emerging from bushes in the park, as he was meeting Bell’s wife.
Bell then proceeded to punch the man “at least eight or nine times” in the head after his wife had fled the scene.
Eilidh Robertson said: “Whilst they were sitting on a bench both accused emerged from bushes and rushed towards the complainer.
“Mrs Bell moved away at this stage.
“Graham Bell thereafter started to punch the complainer on the head and face about eight or nine times. He fell to the ground and Allan Gall kicked the complainer on the body.
“The assault ended and both accused left the locus.”
The victim was taken to Ninewells Hospital with a broken bone over his eye socket and a cut that needed stitches.
When detained by police, Gall, of Mary Slessor Square, told officers he was “sorry for everything I’ve done.”
The court heard that Bell, of Pitkerro Road, was still in a relationship with his wife.
The pair pled guilty to assaulting the complainer and repeatedly punching him in the head and kicking him on the body to his injury on June 7 last year.
Sentence was deferred until April 16.
