Rosyth container terminal plans set to be approved
ByThe Courier Reporter
Plans to create an international container terminal in Rosyth look likely to be given the go-ahead.
Scottish ministers appear “minded” to grant the controversial plans for a harbour revision order with modifications. Port owner Babcock revealed its ambitious plans for an £85 million freight container port in June 2010.
The redevelopment of land west of the dockyard is expected to generate 250 jobs and provide a new use for the RD57 site originally earmarked for the refit of the UK’s Trident nuclear submarines.
The creation of a new container terminal was first announced by Finance Secretary John Swinney in 2008 but the scheme ran into opposition from residents of neighbouring west Fife villages.
A public inquiry was held. Transport Scotland officials are preparing final decision letters that will outline ministers’ views.
