East Fife boss Gary Naysmith believes takeover talk off the field will do nothing to curb the enthusiasm of the players to gain promotion on the park over the coming weeks.
A bid by four directors to purchase the majority shareholding at the Methil club is currently in the pipeline, although there is still discontent among some supporters about how the League Two outfit could and should be taken forward.
However, all Naysmith is asking for is some stability whatever happens as he goes about his work at Bayview.
“Jim (Stevenson, interim chairman) keeps me up to date with what’s happening and what I need to do,” he said.
“I attend the board meetings to find out what’s what and relay back to the players.
“But there’s a very small percentage the players need to know.
“There’s no real difference but it’s just good that it looks like there’s light at the end of the tunnel and that there will be a package put together to ensure the club is put back in the right hands.
“I’ve got a job to do at East Fife and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
“It is a learning curve and when I say that, it really is a learning curve some of the things I’ve had to do you wouldn’t believe.
“I’m happy to do it and everybody mucks in.
“I’ve said it before but East Fife is a proper club, there are a lot of volunteers who work there because East Fife means a lot to them and I like that.
“The pitch is maybe one of the best in Scotland, the stand is there, the infrastructure is there and hopefully the club can progress because they want to put more stands on.
“For me, it’s about trying to get East Fife back into the league we came out of last season and see what happens from there.”
Naysmith was delighted with the manner of his side’s win over Berwick at the weekend, with an injury time winner from Jonathan Page seeing a topsy-turvy game end in their favour.
He explained: “We were 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go and I was thinking if we could get another clean sheet that would be great and we’ll have won the game.
“Obviously their lad has hit a great strike, then Kevin Smith scores a great goal to make it 2-1, and we thought we had done it.
“We had defended well and then there’s a ricochet in the box and they get to 2-2. But fair play to the lads, straight up the pitch, the two centre halves went up for the corner and Pagey put it in.
“Before the game I would probably have been happy with a point but when you get the winner in such dramatic circumstances to get the three points, and then come in to find that the other results have went for us to go fourth, it was a big weekend for us.
“I said when we drew with Albion Rovers it was a good solid performance and we limited them to very few chances it would be something for us to build on.
“So obviously we’ve kicked on from there on Saturday in beating Berwick and we’ve got a home game now against Berwick where we need to pick up maximum points.
“There is a bit of a gap between third and fourth but all we need to do is keep chipping away at our own results and then re-evaulate where we are in three or four weeks’ time.
“The teams up the top have got to play each other and it’s the type of league where I think most people would have backed Clyde to beat East Stirling at the weekend.
“East Stirling go there and get a win and it’s the sort of league where if you are not switched on every game, any team can beat any team.
“It’s about getting consistency and at the end of the day that’s why Arbroath, Queen’s Park and Albion Rovers are at the top because they have had the greater consistency.”
