A coastguard spokesman told The Courier the man believed to be a tourist phoned his wife and she alerted the coastguard at 12.17pm. The spokesman said: “A man was caught by the tide on a sandbank by the River Eden. He was not a fisherman. “We believe he was a tourist out walking. We sent both Broughty Ferry lifeboats and the St Andrews CRT (rescue team). “He was picked up safe and well. We believe he was a tourist but we do not know where he was from.”
