Two teenage boys made a dramatic escape after fire ripped through a Kirkcaldy house.
The 14-year-olds, David Kane and his friend, named locally as Bob Cowan, are believed to have leapt from an upstairs window to escape the flames that tore through the Benarty Street home where they slept.
Both were rushed to Victoria Hospital in the town where they received treatment for smoke inhalation, although neither are understood to have sustained serious injuries.
Sadly, the family pet, a husky dog, had to be put down by a vet after sustaining serious injuries.
David’s grandfather John told The Courier of his shock when police arrived at his door.
“I don’t know where the fire started but when you see the house you’re just so thankful that the boys got out,” he said. “They had to jump from a window and David’s got a twisted ankle but they seem to be OK otherwise.”
David’s father, John Jr, was away from the property at the time of Thursday morning’s fire.
Tomorrow will mark the first anniversary of the death of his wife Jackie, David’s mother, who passed away from a brain tumour.
Her ashes were in the house, with neighbours saying that David had been concerned about retrieving them as the fire raged inside.
