A Liverpool drug dealer caught with heroin and cannabis in a fuel check operation on an Angus dual carriageway has been jailed for two years.
Anthony Gill was travelling north with another man at Gateside, near Forfar, when Revenue and Customs officers flagged their vehicle into a layby.
As the car pulled off the road, a package was seen to be thrown from the passenger side where Gill, 32, of Rufford Avenue, Liverpool was sitting.
Officers also found a carrier bag containing a herbal substance in the footwell of the front passenger seat and a further small amount of herbal substance in the glove compartment.
That was found to be cannabis, with a potential street value of more than £1,700.
A subsequent search of the surrounding area revealed a bag containing a brown substance, later found to be heroin of 24% purity, with a potential value of £2,700.
Gill admitted an indictment alleging two charges of being concerned in the supply of drugs on February 20 last year.
Pleas of not guilty by a co-accused, Kevin Kelly, 31, of Crosby, Liverpool, to the charges were accepted by the Crown.
Passing sentence on Thursday, Sheriff Kevin Veal noted that Gill had amassed 67 previous convictions since 1994.
“The value of the drugs was not insignificant and the only appropriate disposal is one of immediate imprisonment,” said the sheriff.
