Dundee City Council borrowing £2.8m to build homes for rent

Dundee City Council plans to borrow up to £2.8 million to pay for 40 new homes for rent.
The housing committee has approved taking part in another round of the National Housing Trust initiative.
It involves the Scottish Futures Trust, local authorities and private developers joining forces to create homes for rent.
Previous funding rounds have seen permission granted for 15 homes in East Links Place, Broughty Ferry and 99 homes at the former Wallace Craigie Works.
The committee heard the NHT provided an extra option for people who might have bought a home in the past but now found it difficult to secure a mortgage.
It would also free up properties for people on the council housing waiting list.
The committee also approved the demolition of 68 flats in Hebrides Drive in the latest phase of the redevelopment of Mill o’ Mains.
North East ward councillor Brian Gordon said giving tenants advance notice would give an one worried about the bedroom tax the chance to move to a smaller property.
