Glenrothes Cricket Club hoping vandals will be caught out
ByThe Courier Reporter
The chairman of Glenrothes Cricket Club has been left stumped after vandals caused thousands of pounds of damage to pitch covers.
Eddie Gibbs says repairing the £8,000 metal covers will cost the club money it simply does not have after they were initially targeted just hours after being delivered.
However, they were attacked again overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, this time causing major structural damage that the club will have to pay to rectify.
“The covers were delivered three weeks ago and they were damaged on the first night,” said Mr Gibbs. “Kids had been jumping on them. Then the damage was only superficial but this time they have really had a go at them.
“The reason we got the kind that we did was so that they couldn’t be slashed or set on fire. If we could get away without covers then we wouldn’t bother but when we won promotion we had to put them in.”
Police in Glenrothes are seeking the culprits and have appealed for information from the public.
Anyone with information can call police on 101.
