Edinburgh 31 Dragons 24: Allan Jacobsen signs off with victory
ByThe Courier Reporter
Allan Jacobsen signed off in style to help Edinburgh salvage some late pride from their rocky Pro12 campaign.
Scotland’s most capped prop produced an inspiring display in a 31-24 victory over the Dragons on what was his final appearance before retiring from the big stage.
Edinburgh recovered from a shaky start to effectively kill off the Newport brigade before the interval. Shocking scrummage defence allowed Steffan Jones to cruise in for the early visitors’ try, converted by Tom Prydie.
Full-back Greg Tonks got Edinburgh up and running with a score at the other end, with skipper Greig Laidlaw adding the extras. Laidlaw wriggled over himself to create more momentum and he followed up by converting a fine touchdown by Netali Talei.
Prydie and Laidlaw traded penalties the latter striking again on the brink of the interval to make the gap 15 points. And he repeated the dose twice in quick succession after the restart to create more breathing space for the Gunners.
Dan Lydiate clawed back five points for the Dragons, Prydie converting, and there was another jolt when Prydie converted his own interception score.
