Fife author Iain Banks backs charity writing race night

A fundraising event supported by Fife author Iain Banks took place in west Fife at the weekend.
Safe Space is a Dunfermline charity offering support to survivors of childhood sexual abuse age 12 and upwards.
Iain Banks is the charity’s patron and helped launch Safe Space Write-athon to encourage service users and anyone who wished to take part to write a book and ask sponsors to support them to the finish line.
With the backing of other best-selling authors, publishers and editors, the charity has now raised over £13,000. A grand finale race night took place at Dalgety Bay Boat Club on Saturday night.
Safe Space manager Pauline McGee said: “In this depressing climate of cutbacks, increasing strains on the voluntary sector and more survivors seeking support for childhood trauma, I think this is a fantastic feel-good story.
“Not only through the amount raised but through the backing and encouragement of so many talented individuals,” explained Pauline.
