A 29-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after what appears to have been a gas explosion at a house in Rosyth on Tuesday night.
The woman was in her end-terraced home when the explosion ripped through the property in the town’s Sherbrooke Road causing “substantial” damage.
The woman was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where last night her injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
Police said the only other occupant of the house, a 10-year-old child, was uninjured.
Police Scotland Fife Division responded to reports of an explosion at the address at 7.21pm.It is thought a household cooker may have been the source of the blast.
Neighbours said the force of the blast blew out the front window of the home several feet into the garden. Some internal walls had also collapsed.
The woman was initially treated by neighbours before being taken to hospital by ambulance. It is believed that the woman’s injuries were caused by glass cuts.
There was more damage to the back of the house.
Police were last night carrying out a joint investigation with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service but the explosion is not being treated as suspicious.
Eyewitnesses said anumber of children were playing out at the time of the incident and looked “distraught” in the immediate aftermath.
One neighbour said: “The woman came out of the back of the house with her injuries and these were treated by neighboursinitially before the ambulance got there.
“There was a young child in the vicinity when it happened and she clearly got a big fright. There are now other youngsters aged around six to 10 who are clearly quite distraught about what’shappened.
“A lot of people close by were watching television at the time and heard the bang and thought the neighbour’s door had slammed shut.
“But then they realised the window had blown out. It’s blown out 15-20 feet and the glass has spread beyond that.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “There’s nothing apparently suspicious at this time. There is a joint investigation with ourselves and the fire service.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We attended there after an incident. We took a female patient there with minor injuries to the nearest accident and emergency department.”
