Police are to deliver hundreds of letters to Stanley residents as the search intensifies for a sex attacker who struck in the quiet Perthshire village.
Officers have stepped up their investigation into the weekend attack on a 15-year-old girl.
The 900 letters are appealing for help and, as well as door-to-door inquiries, detectives were also reviewing CCTV images.
Politicians expressed their shock at the incident, in which a teenager was sexually assaulted by a man as she walked her dogs in the village on the banks of the Tay.
The man, described as about 6ft and speaking in a foreign language, approached the teenager near a fisherman’s bothy close to the road to Stanley Mills.
The teenager had been walking along a tree-lined path between 10.15pm and 11pm prior to the incident.
She was sexually assaulted by the man, who then walked off. He was wearing a light blue hooded top.
Detective Inspector Ally Waghorn, the investigating officer on the case, said: “The letters contain what was basically issued in the original appeal, the only difference being that we are asking people if they have CCTV cameras.
“We’ve issued these letters to further our appeal. People could have been out walking at the time of this incident.”
A police spokesman said the girl was extremely distressed by the incident but did not require any medical attention.
Councillor Ian Campbell, who has lived in Stanley for 20 years, expressed his shock at the incident.
“Nothing like this has happened in Stanley while I have been here,” he said. “I have lived here for 20 years it’s usually a quiet wee place.”
He added: “Of course this will be a matter of concern to the people of Stanley. I would just ask the public to give the police any assistance they can and I am sure they will do that.”
Perth and Kinross Council community safety committee convener Douglas Pover said: “This was a deeply shocking incident. The council will work closely with the police and the local community to bring a satisfactory conclusion to the inquiry.”
Police are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of the incident and may have seen the girl or her assailant.
