Perthshire woman set to enchant Russian TV viewers in fairies documentary

Fiona Murray, also known as Alphelia, has been working with a Russian TV crew on a programme about fairies.
Fiona Murray, also known as Alphelia, has been working with a Russian TV crew on a programme about fairies.

A Russian TV crew has been filming a local woman for a programme on fairies.

Coupar Angus-born Fiona Murray, who goes by her soul name Alphedia, told the team how she started to communicate with nature spirits and angels.

The television crew flew to Scotland to record the segment as part of a series called the Encyclopedia of Myths for Russian channel TV3. Each episode is dedicated to a particular character from myths and legends around the world.

The 33-year-old wrote her first book Messages from Nature’s Guardians about her experiences of starting to see and hear nature spirits and angels after a serious illness which hit her when she was just 23. The ailment left her bedridden for a year and half unable to move.

The Russian television crew filmed interviews with Alphelia outside her house and in her fairy yurt in her garden and then a few days later, she took them to some of the magical places where she had experiences with different nature guardians.

It’s not the first time Alphedia has been in front of the cameras.

She said: “I filmed a documentary on my work with nature spirits for Sky TV more than three years ago and really enjoyed the experience, so I was delighted to be interviewed for this programme and to take them to some of the places I wrote about in my book.

“It was great to hear that people in Russia are really interested in Scottish folklore and that mainstream Russian TV will be showing a programme on fairies.”

Alphedia added that her interest in fairies was inspired by the way cultures across the world celebrate nature.

She said: “I love the work I do helping people connect to the spiritual aspect of themselves and of nature. I trained in environmental sciences but all around the world, cultures respect the nature spirits and working with them is part of their heritage just as here in the Celtic lands.

“More and more people now are starting to get interested in angels and fairies and to remember an aspect of themselves they had forgotten.”
