A 60-year-old man has died in a two-car crash in Aberdeenshire.
The collision happened on the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road north of Fyvie at around 1.25pm on Friday. Fire and Rescue crews helped remove the man from his vehicle but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man aged 45 was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Police have appealed for witnesses to the smash involving a silver Toyota Rav4 and a black Kia Sportage.
A spokesman said: “Initial inquiries suggest that they were travelling in opposite directions before colliding.
“At the time of the collision driving conditions were very good and it is vital that we piece together what has happened. Witness accounts are key to this and a full investigation into the circumstances is now underway.”
The road was closed for five hours as investigators attended the scene.
