School dinners at Castlehill Primary in Cupar have returned to normal, following an incident on Friday which led to an asbestos alert.
During a programme of installing energy-efficient lighting in the school, head teacher Carol Opdahl was alerted on Friday morning to a disturbance of a ceiling panel known to contain asbestos fibres in the stage/dining area.
As a precautionary measure, the emergency protocol was put into place and the area was cordoned off. Air quality testing was carried out on Friday and the results have come back “well within Health and Safety Executive standards.”
Mrs Opdahl told parents in a letter: “There has been no risk to pupils or staff as a result of this event taking place.”
Children who were due to have school lunches had a school packed lunch instead. All lunches were served in classrooms.
Mrs Opdahl said the children enjoyed their “classroom picnic”. Castlehill Primary has one of the largest school rolls of any primary in Fife.
