FORTHILL PRIMARY has been added to the list of schools where reserve places will be created next term, writes Grant Smith, education reporter.
It will have two places at P1 following a request from Broughty Ferry councillor Laurie Bidwell.
The education committee heard that high demand at certain schools makes it difficult for families moving into the catchment area during the term to enrol their child there.
This can result in pupils having to travel further to another school and can sometimes split up siblings.
Councillors agreed to the suggestion by education director Michael Wood to create two reserve places each at Barnhill, Claypotts Castle, Downfield and SS Peter and Paul primaries, along with nine at Craigowl Primary.
There will also be four each at Grove, Harris and Morgan and St Paul’s academies and St John’s High.
Mr Bidwell said concern had been expressed about the rising roll at Forthill during a recent parent council meeting.
“Forthill’s catchment area contains some recently built major new housing such as the Ferryfields development,” he said.
“It is a catchment area with a continuing reasonable level of turnover of homes and tenancies as people move in and out.”
