A touch of Brazil has come to the streets of Courier Country this week.
Seven senior Brazilian police officers from the State Military Police in Rio de Janeiro are in the country as part of a fact-finding mission in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.
Organised by the Scottish Institute for Policing Research, the visit started with a trip to the Scottish Police College at Tulliallan to see police training.
They then visited Fife Constabulary for a briefing on the innovative approach taken to community engagement as well as the opportunity to see community policing in action.
The party has also visited St Andrews University to hear about research on approaches to violence reduction.
They have met Strathclyde Police and the Scottish Government Commonwealth Games security teams, a research team from SIPR and the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research, who are studying the policing of large sporting events.
The trip ends today with a meeting at Dundee University as well as a visit to Tayside Police HQ.
SIPR director Professor Nick Fyfe said: “They are keen to learn about the approach to community policing in Scotland and about our preparations for the Commonwealth Games.”
