The family of a man missing since Hogmanay have said they are “utterly bereft” at the discovery of his body.
George McDonald, who was 51, disappeared from his home in Alloa on December 31. Police said his remains have been found in the village of Saline in Fife.
In February Mr McDonald’s sister-in-law Jean McDonald (30) appealed for the public’s help in finding him, describing the month since his disappearance as a “living hell”.
Mr McDonald, a keen fisherman, had poor mental health.
His family said: “George was a family man who adored all of his family and was adored back by them. We are utterly bereft and are having difficulty coming to terms with the fact we will never see him again.”
Inspector Charlie Mitchell from Central Scotland Police said: “This is a devastating blow for the family and our thoughts are with them. I would like to thank the family and everyone else who helped us in our search for George, often in very challenging weather conditions.”
