Travel agent Thomas Cook has announced 84 Scottish jobs are at risk as it prepares to close a string of 18 branches across the country.
The firm said stores in Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline and Leven were on its closure list, with the likely loss of 12 jobs in Fife.
It also revealed that Co-operative Travel shops part of the Thomas Cook group in Bridge of Allan, Stirling’s Thistles Centre and at Howgate and New Carron in Falkirk would close their doors at the cost of 21 posts.
The closures come as the travel agent continues its attempts at a turnaround after reporting losses of £458 million in November.
The high street name almost collapsed under the weight of its own debt in 2011, and was forced to ask its bankers for a £200m loan to help secure it future.
Last night, managing director of the firm’s retail network Joanna Wild said: “Following careful consideration, we have announced that 18 stores are proposed to close in Scotland and we are working with those colleagues who are affected.”
