VIDEO: Fife guinea pig leaps to Blue Peter badge

What do the Queen, Madonna, Pele and Gordon Brown have in common?

The answer might be one to baffle even the most diehard of quiz fans but in one pocket of Rosyth, a gravity-defying guinea pig holds all the answers.

Yes, the amazing Truffles has been at it again.

Not content with breaking his own world record for the longest leap by a guinea pig last year, he has now joined the select band lucky enough to receive a coveted Blue Peter badge.

It was Inverkeithing High business studies teacher Gwyneth McLean who suggested the world-famous children’s TV show should hear about the exploits of the galloping guinea pig.

So proud owners Chloe Macari (14) and sister Nicole (15) wrote in to tell the tale of the rocket-propelled rodent who is fuelled to greater lengths by only cucumber or curly kale.

While their mum Angela tried and failed as a youngster to earn her own Blue Peter badge, the teenagers went a step better and now have a shiny badge to show for Truffles’ efforts.

Last year Truffles leapt 30cm to break the world record but there was doubt he would actually make it into the record books as green-eyed guinea pigs across the world tried to outleap him before the Guinness Book of Records was published.

However, like an old pro, out of retirement he came to set a new world record with a spectacular jump of 48cm.

“The girls wrote about it and how it nearly went pear-shaped and how he nearly didn’t get into the book but finally he did,” explained Angela.

“He is still world champion and nobody has challenged him.”

Then they received the Blue Peter badges and the programme makers have not said no to featuring him in the future.

The only remaining question is just where do you pin a badge on a guinea pig?
