Former St Johnstone and Bristol City manager Derek McInnes reckons it would make sense for Hearts to hand Gary Locke the reins until at least the end of the season.
McInnes, out of work since leaving the Robins in January, is thought to have been included on a shortlist for a position that was made vacant when John McGlynn departed a fortnight ago.
Despite ex-Dundee United boss Peter Houston admitting on Saturday that he was due to hold a second round of talks with Hearts over the post, interim-manager and former club captain Locke looks set to lead the team out at Hampden for Sunday’s League Cup final against St Mirren.
And McInnes reckons Locke (37) will be given a chance to prove himself until at least the summer.
McInnes said: “Hearts season has come down to one game now, they’re not going to be relegated and they’re not going to make the top six. They have this massive game on Sunday and I would not be surprised if Gary Locke is given the opportunity to do it.
“He has shown a real capability to do it and he has enough experience.”
