Police investigating Cupar sex attack report say ‘no criminality’ took place

Police investigating reports of a serious sexual assault in Cupar say they are “satisfied that no criminality has taken place”.

Officers had been investigating a report of an attack on a 27-year-old woman in the Duffus Park area of the town on Sunday night.

However, a police spokesman today said: “Following a detailed and thorough investigation of a report of sexual assault in Cupar on Sunday evening, detectives are now satisfied that no criminality has taken place and the investigation has been brought to a conclusion.”

Several people had told The Courier they would think twice about going out after dark until the attacker was caught.

Chief Inspector Jill Harper, based at Cupar, said: “I am grateful for the significant support we received throughout this investigation from members of the public.

“I would like to reassure everyone that there is no risk to public safety as a result of this matter. I would encourage everyone to continue to enjoy the recreational public spaces in Cupar.”
