ByThe Courier Reporter
A major inquiry has been launched after a former Glenrothes man was found dead in a Caithness river.
The body of William McGough, who was 30, was pulled from the Wick River near a house on the town’s Victoria Lane early on Saturday.
Police said his death is being treated as “unexplained” pending the results of a post-mortem.
They were unable to say whether his death was being classed as suspicious.
Detectives are trying to piece together his final movements and are appealing for witnesses who saw the father-of-one, who had been living in Wick for some time, in the hours before his death.
A police spokesman said: “Specialist Crime Division, Major Inquiry Team North, are continuing the investigation into the death of a man in Wick.
“The body of a 30-year-old man was found by a member of the public at about 6.30am on Saturday.
He leaves behind a young son, Corey, three, who lives with his mother, Jade Campbell, in Wick.”
