Matt Lockwood may be struggling to get a game for Dundee at the moment, but he had no problem winning selection for a World XI containing some of football’s biggest stars.
The Dark Blues defender took part in a charity game organised by former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien in the Ghana capital of Accra last summer.
As we reported, Lockwood, who had a friend with Chelsea connections to thank for his invite, was flown out to Africa and found himself rubbing shoulders with the likes of Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor, Ashley Cole, Freddie Ljungberg and Florent Malouda.
Now, he is set to return for another glamour game in the World XI v Africa XI at the same venue on June 8.
Lockwood said: “I can’t wait to go back. I played centre-half in 2011 so was directly up against Drogba and Adebayor, which was some experience.
“It was an unbelievable day and I’m sure this one will be every bit as good. I’m thrilled to be asked back so will savour the occasion.”
