An Angus mum of three who cycled 360 miles for charity is gearing up to raise even more money.
Kathleen Haden (44), from Letham, is preparing to host a live concert this week in aid of homeless charity Shelter Scotland, having previously cycled solo from Broughty Ferry Castle to Thurso in just 10 days for the charity.
The ‘Don’t Stand for Homelessness’ gig on Saturday at Letham Village Hall will host up-and-coming casio-folk-pop group The Beautiful Word (which features Kathleen’s daughter Emily) and local favourites Aff the Cuff an upbeat folk band from Carnoustie.
Kathleen said: “After recovering from my 360-mile challenge for Shelter Scotland and seeing the good work they do, I was determined to do even more and what better way than to get people together for a night of music and fundraising.
“My friends joke that I’m becoming a bit of a professional fundraiser but I truly believe we all need to do our bit. I’m raising money for Shelter Scotland because I want the peace of mind to know that organisations like Shelter Scotland are on hand to help people who fall on hard times.”
Kathleen hopes to attract 130 music fans to the gig to raise over £500 for Shelter Scotland enough to help 50 families and individuals through the charity’s free helpline.
She added: “On the night I’ll be running around trying to make sure everything runs smoothly, but I’ll also have my ‘proud mum’ hat on as my daughter Emily takes to the stage with her band The Beautiful Word.
“It’s going to be a fantastic night of entertainment, raffles and prizes made even better in the knowledge that everyone who comes along is supporting a very worthwhile cause.”
Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “We are very grateful to Kathleen for choosing to raise valuable funds for Shelter Scotland. Support and generosity like hers enables us to offer vital services to those experiencing bad housing and homelessness.”
Tickets are £5 on the door and the gig starts at 7.30pm.
