Call for ‘bums on seats’ to help troubled Whitehall Theatre
ByThe Courier Reporter
The president of Downfield Musical Society has called on the public to support the troubled Whitehall Theatre, and said that what is needed is to put “bums on seats”.
Gillian Brown was commenting on the troubles revealed last week by the resignation of former Lord Provost John Letford as chairman of the theatre’s trust.
He and treasurer Alex Scott departed after a bitter row over the trust’s failure to back Mr Letford on crucial restructuring plans and future fundraising efforts.
She was sure this week’s Gang Show would have been grateful for the £1,000 donation which Mr Letford unsuccessfully proposed the trust should make towards their production.
That amount of money over five nights does not equate to a lot of tickets, and she said: “That is what these shows need bums on seats.
“Please, to the people of Dundee, let’s see live entertainment continue and come along for some fabulous nights of entertainment.”
