The mother of a teenager who claims to have seen a bus driver’s steamy clinch with a schoolgirl has called for tougher checks on public transport workers.
Susan Ferguson’s shocked 14-year-old daughter says she witnessed the pair kiss each other on a bus parked in Whitfield.
The mother-of-three young girls said: “I got a text late at night saying there was a bus sitting with its lights off and the driver was inside kissing a young girl.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed they are investigating Ms Ferguson’s complaint about an incident on March 13.
Bus driver Chris Forbes quit last week after an investigation was launched into an allegation he kissed and cuddled a schoolgirl on the number 17 service.
The 32-year-old father-of-three admitted he stopped the bus and turned off the lights at the terminus near Summerfield Avenue in Whitfield.
However, he insists he was checking for lost property when he came across the schoolgirl.
“Nothing happened at all,” he said last week. “I had no idea where the allegations have come from at all.”
Mr Forbes resigned amid an investigation by his employers, who later called in Tayside Police.
It is understood he was estranged from the mother of his children prior to the alleged incident however, he was back at the family home on Wednesday.
The Courier invited Mr Forbes to comment but he declined.
Ms Ferguson wants public transport workers to be subjected to greater scrutiny by their employers.
She said: “I don’t want sleazy drivers using their position to prey on young girls.”
A spokesman for the National Express said: “As a matter of company policy, we do a thorough check of all our new drivers, including CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checks. The individual concerned is no longer a National Express employee and, as a result of concerns raised during an internal investigation, we referred the matter to the authorities.”
A police spokeswoman said inquiries are continuing.
