Plans are set to be lodged by a company needing new premises in Kinross-shire to expand their business and safeguard local jobs.
Forth Wines stated they need to relocate to new premises from Milnathort to Kinross to allow the business to expand as the existing warehouse is deemed inadequate for their business development.
The company proposes to remove the warehouse in Milnathort and redevelop the site for residential use.
Forth Wines will engage with residents and businesses to allow them to learn more about the proposals before they submit their plan to Perth and Kinross Council.
The owner-managed company acts as an agent, distributor and wholesaler of wines, spirits and beers throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK.
Formed in 1963, Forth Wines supply to trade outlets, gastro pubs, restaurants and hotels. They hope to lodge their plans with the council at the end of this month or the beginning of May.
Distribution is undertaken from Forth Wines’ premises in Milnathort through a group of local and national carriers. This enables the company to reach markets beyond Scotland and operate throughout the UK.
The company has an annual turnover of £24 million and employs 49 people, with 38 based in the Milnathort premises.
George Thomson, managing director of Forth Wines, said the company has been “investigating a number of options” regarding their warehouse.
“We believe our proposals for relocation to the southern edge of Kinross is an exciting opportunity to stay in the area and bring investment in Kinross-shire,” he said.
“The current premises are unfortunately not suitable for our business and Forth Wines needs to relocate to ensure the ongoing stability and future growth of the business.
“We are presently in discussions regarding two options to relocate to the south of Kinross.”
Mr Thomson said that Forth Wines view Kinross-shire as “home” and want to stay in the area.
